The starting point

The Coffee Cowboy started as a cart.
It stayed because it earned the right to.

Our job wasn’t to make it louder, trendier, or more “marketable.” It was to help it survive success without losing the thing that made people care in the first place. This is the kind of work that happens when a brand stops being a moment and starts behaving like it plans to be here for a long time.

Designing for the future that was already coming

Telluride doesn’t reward novelty for long. It rewards things that feel settled. Familiar. Earned. The shift wasn’t really about growth. It was about weight.

Giving visuals a spine

The Coffee Cowboy already had a visual language. It just lived in fragments. An original collection of illustrated assets by Zachary Kiernan carried the soul of the brand, but it hadn’t been asked to behave like a system yet. Our work was to listen to that art, not override it. We standardized the visuals by pulling a throughline from what was already there, letting the illustrations set the tone, the color palette follow naturally, and the typography fall in line. Nothing new for the sake of new. Just enough structure so the brand could repeat itself without losing its character. That’s how The Coffee Cowboy learned how to look like itself everywhere, on purpose.

Email as part of the business

Owning a coffee shop like this means you’re not just selling drinks. You’re hosting events, collaborating with neighbors, opening new doors, moving merch in person and online. That only works if you can actually reach the people who already care.

So we treated email as infrastructure, not marketing.

• Tabletop QR codes placed where decisions are already happening
• Opt-in moments that feel natural, not interruptive
• Wi-Fi access that quietly turns foot traffic into permission
From there, the list stayed useful.
• Grand openings to people nearby
• Merch drops to people who buy
• Hiring calls to the right local energy
• Segments shaped by behavior, not assumptions

To make it sustainable, we trained the team to run it themselves.

• Live training sessions, not handoffs
• Reusable templates instead of one-off designs
• Modular merch blocks synced with the website and inventory
• Headers and footers that don’t need constant rethinking

Keeping everything in the same language

Even though Audacity is a digital agency, the work doesn’t stop at the screen. For The Coffee Cowboy, print and digital were treated as the same conversation, just happening in different places. Posters, signage, and in-store pieces were designed alongside emails and online campaigns, not after the fact. Every print asset was delivered press-ready, built with an understanding of materials and production, not just how it would look in a mockup. Foil inlays, UV coatings, die-cuts, packaging considerations, paper stock. These aren’t add-ons. They’re part of the design thinking from the start. Keeping everything under one roof meant no translation loss. No duplicated effort. No brand drift between what someone sees in their inbox and what they hold in their hands. One system. One set of assets. One clear voice, everywhere it shows up.

A Website that Lifts Heavy

The website was built as an operational system, not a launch moment.

Inventory across two physical locations was structured to reflect how the business actually runs. What lives at the cart. What lives at the general store. What’s available online. All of it connected to the same source, so updates happen once and stay accurate everywhere.

The result is less guesswork and fewer manual fixes. The team was trained to manage it in-house. • Managing inventory across locations

• Uploading and updating products
• Understanding what the system is reporting back

Commerce automation was layered in without complicating the experience. When someone leaves an item in their cart, the system responds. Follow-up emails trigger automatically. Sometimes it’s a reminder. Sometimes an incentive. Always based on behavior, not timing guesses.

Tracking runs underneath the entire experience. UTMs show where people come from, what they interact with, and where friction appears. That information feeds back into decisions instead of sitting unused.
For customers, the path stays clear and intuitive.

For staff, the site becomes a learning environment, aggregating data that improves service, merchandising, and efficiency over time.
